Cairo to Constantinople
Visited an exhibition being held at the Queens Gallery, Holyrood Palace in Edinburgh. It was titled Cairo to Constantinople, an it features photographs taken in 1862 of a tour taken, by the then Prince of Wales, of the middle east. The photographs were taken by a British photographer, Francis Bedford.
It’s well worth a visit, some great images, with a very interesting background story. Take the audio tour offered as it really adds to the enjoyment, some of the commentary is by John McCarthy, who you may remember was held hostage in Lebanon.
Whilst there I took a few pictures of the area around Holyrood, though after seeing Mr Bedfords images I’m not sure why I bother, 1862 technology has really shown me up!!
